Pharmacies are becoming more like luxury perfumeries, with an endless and enticing range where you can find the color cosmetics or treatments you're looking for. The number of consumers who visit them to purchase cosmetics continues to grow year after year.

According to Stanpa (National Association of Perfumery and Cosmetics), 22% of consumers choose the pharmacy to buy their cosmetics. This unstoppable trend has only just begun.

What are the reasons? Perhaps we trust that the product prescription is suitable for our needs. Do we believe that the formulas of these cosmetics are more rigorous? That the pharmacy adds an extra dimension of health and well-being to our beauty routine? We spoke with pharmacist Esther Sansi (@Sansi_Farma) to discover the keys to a rising trend that seems unstoppable, and this is what she told us.

1. We understand the skin and the active ingredients that work best. The training and experience of pharmacists allow them to quickly identify a problem by observing the signs the skin displays. We also know that the skin is a living organism that reacts to changes – in season, mood, diet – we can diagnose and precisely prescribe what that skin needs at a given time.

2. Pharmacists have extensive training in chemistry and anatomy. We know the active ingredients, their concentrations, and the interactions that can occur between different topical substances applied to issues like spots or dehydration. We don't sell cosmetics; we prescribe treatments and take responsibility for the results.

3. Application routines. We explain how to use cosmetics and can adapt them based on each person's lifestyle; we teach how to apply creams, something that seems obvious but isn't always done, emphasizing gestures and movements so that the cream or serum penetrates better and acts more effectively. Often, we teach facial gymnastics to complement the routine.

4. We guarantee results and take responsibility for what we recommend because we are directly related to health.

5. We monitor humidity and temperature levels daily to ensure that cosmetics are stored optimally and, as we have a small stock, we continuously renew our inventory.
