Pharmacist and nutricosmetics specialist Meritxell Martí, creator of Unique Pink Collagen and Unique Pink Omega, was interviewed by OKSALUD, from OK Diario to discuss inflammation, its effects on the body, and the role that diet and certain nutrients can play in its regulation.
During the interview, Meritxell Martí explains that inflammation is a natural defence response of the body and that the problem arises when it persists over time and becomes chronic.
Mediterranean diet and chronic inflammation
Meritxell Martí highlights the Mediterranean diet as the dietary pattern with the strongest scientific evidence for helping to combat chronic inflammation, thanks to foods such as extra virgin olive oil, oily fish, fruit and vegetables, legumes, and nuts.
In contrast, she points out that a diet rich in ultra-processed foods, refined sugars, and trans fats can contribute to inflammatory processes.
Omega 3, 6, 7 and 9: the importance of balance
The interview also explores the role of fatty acids. Meritxell explains that omega-3 and omega-6 play different roles in processes related to inflammation and its resolution, which is why the focus should not be on a single nutrient, but rather on achieving a balanced lipid profile.
In this context, she also discusses the importance of other fatty acids such as omega-7, associated with mucous membranes, skin, and metabolism, and omega-9, linked to cardiovascular health. This comprehensive approach to the lipid profile is also at the heart of the formulation of Unique Pink Omega.
